The Mid-Atlantic Quartet

Since about 2007 I've pursued a solo music path...not quite a career as I've always maintained a professional career (on the side :-) HOwever I took a bit of a hiatus and have slowly begun collaborating and writing new material for the past 2 years. After working through several styles and changes in projects and collaborators,  I'm excited to finally announce the arrival of The Mid-Atlantic Quartet.

There are some ironies involved here...First of all, there are 5 of us. We don't play classical stringed instruments, nor do we play classical music. It is similar in style to my previous works, but the collaboration with friends is so much fun and so refreshing and gives the music it's own flavor and is just plain better in my opinion. I encourage anyone that has loyally followed my musical exploits to jump into this new project with me as I abandon the solo ship.

I will be abandoning this particular part of my website to pare down and focus on this project. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged and helped me grow as a person and musician over the past years. I invite you to continue growing with me and spreading the joy of this new project as we perform our second performance ever...The Big Frontyard Concert (we graduated from the Tiny Backyard Concert back in the Spring).

Josh Garrels is coming to NC

So while I've been off galavanting and warming up in Costa Rican waters, (using the inspiration to continue writing new material...a particularly long and drawn out process this time) my old friend Josh Garrels has been a very busy dude!

Working along side the beautifully creative minds at Mason Jar Music, they have not only produced some of the most real and moving music together and but also beautiful films depicting Josh & Co. playing live version in the wild of some of his most touching songs. Now with the production complete on the documentary film, they are on the road premiering the full length version and performing together in what I can only imagine is going to be a spiritually, audibly, and physically moving night of wonder.

Check out a sample of what's to come...
Last year on my birthday, I had the pleasure of watching The Punch Brothers perform live in an intimate local theater here in downtown Wilmington (Chris Thile and I share the same birthday). This year it looks like unbeknownst to Josh & Mason Jar, they have schedule a performance in Granger, NC on February 21st. It turns out, I'll be receiving an even more magical performance (technically the day after my birthday) this year. Hope to see "ya'll" there!!

"Just" because "Nothing is Wrong"

I came home one night to a cold dark house without power and decided to have a romantic candlelight song time by myself with a couple songs I've written over the past year. The first one is called "Nothing is Wrong" and the second is called "Just"...also, don't mind my friend Ben who walks in halfway through...it's all an illusion...you heard nothing...enjoy!

Ted's Fun on the River Showcase Thursday, August 30th, 2012 @ 7pm

This Thursday I will be performing solo for a local Wilmington showcase with some fellow singer songwriters. Local musician Al Dimarco assembles a diverse handful of musicians each month to perform a set each at an intimate little venue called Ted's Fun on the River. #2 Castle street is situated in the shadow of the historical Cape Fear River Bridge. The show is free as always and I'm excited to be sharing the stage with my friend Lee Hester as well as Jesse Stockton, a familiar name around town w/ Benji Smith and Jesse Jewel . Also performing a set will be Brent Stimmell. The show starts at 7pm and each artist will be performing a 20 minute set.

I hope to see some familiar faces out Thursday night.

Booking once again...

So I have been working with several friends over the past year on a couple different projects. The Gray Jays being the more creative and collaborative of the two. A blend of folk, world, and a touch of rock. Summer has pulled everyone's schedules pretty tight, so although we have a full set ready to unleash on the world it has been challenging to line up a summer show in the midst of the concert/beach season.
Rehearsal Night
The other project is an extremely funny thing, which is also fun. I's very much out of my box and comfort zone, but funny none the less. Teenage Dream Band, the Ultimate Katy Perry Tribute Band asked me to be their keys player...yup, you did no misread that. It's happening. Our debut will be at Kenan Auditorium on Saturday, June 23rd on the UNCW campus. Check it out!

I will also be performing at Tidal Creek Co-op here in Wilmington on Saturday June 30th, 2012 for their with at least one or more members of the Gray Jays, performing some original songs as well as some new material. So I'm pretty excited about that.

But to kick off the official start of summer. On solstice (Thursday, June 21st), Jason will be joining the Worldwide Didjeridoo Meditation for 45 minutes at sunset somewhere down by Wrightsville Beach...
